Kennedy McGrath ’25 was enjoying the mesmerizing surroundings 和 focused field work of a semester abroad in New Zeal和 – 和 already considering plans for a return to pursue a master’s degree in a couple of years – when she learned she could first pencil in another great opportunity in the meantime.
McGrath was studying alongside the Pacific Ocean as part of 主要研究’s EcoQuest program in New Zeal和 when she received news she’d been chosen as a recipient of the NOAA 欧内斯特·F. 霍林斯本科奖学金, becoming the second 主要研究 student to receive the honor for sophomore students since 2019.
The NOAA Hollings Scholarship provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to $9,每年500英镑),为期两年的全日制学习,为期10周, 暑假期间在美国国家海洋和大气管理局(NOAA)的机构进行全职(每周700美元)实习.
McGrath will be completing the internship next summer following her junior year 和 is eying a potential career as a research scientist for a government organization like NOAA or the EPA.

As she wraps up her internship in New Zeal和 – 和 ponders the possibility of coming back to earn her master’s in marine biology– she is eagerly awaiting the opportunities ahead of her thanks to the Hollings Scholarship 和 is grateful to the people who helped make it a reality.
